There is no good reason to stay in the HP fandom. There is no way to "ethically" keep the fandom alive.

There is so much good YA fantasy out there! Joanne is an awful human being, which is the most important thing, but she also went from debut author straight to "we dare not edit her" status, and it shows. There is stuff like HP but actually better out there, I promise!

So with the new Harry Potter series and the UK Supreme Court case...it's super important to know that JK Rowling funded and stood behind this decision, and rallied with many, many transphobic people to get this done. She poured money into this.

If you are going to support her series, you are actively participating in the silencing and erasure of trans people, especially trans women, who've been Rowlings common victims. Even if you are trans....

I say this because I often times see a lot of people who 'reclaim' Harry Potter, saying that they are lgbt+/queer/trans. And when I look on their blogs or what have you, yeah, they are trans, but rarely, if ever are they transfeminine people. Rowlings bigotry, though she goes after all trans people, is built on the violence of trans women, and eradicating their existence by painting them as violent predators.

So for all the people trying to 'reclaim' HP, because you think being a trans or queer person and reclaiming it makes it somewhat okay, it's not, especially if you aren't a trans woman.

And in general, trans, queer, or whatever, it is concerning if you are still supporting that series after this.

This was an attack specifically going after trans women, which will in turn go after all trans people.

The new series is coming out. And so many people, especially other queer/trans people are super excited. You are still part of the problem if you support it.

JK Rowling will die alone in that castle of hers, surrounded by no one. sure, she'll get a few days of attention and Harry Potter will be popular for a bit, but by the end of the month everyone will have moved on. she won't be remembered as a visionary who wrote a popular book series 20 years ago, she'll be remembered as a bigot who put down trans women and other cis women for the sake of some "agenda". JK Rowling insisting that her child actors "owe" her is especially weird if you look up any coverage of when they cast the child actors, which talks exclusively about Chris Columbus. People asking him who he's going to cast, people talking with him about the casting. Her quote at the time was "Having seen Dan Radcliffe's screen test I don't think Chris Columbus could have found a better Harry." Her involvement seems like it was limited to angry phone calls when she read a rumor they were going to cast an American

Then years later when none of them will talk to her anymore she's mad that they don't like her, when she personally picked them out to play her characters! She was involved at every step (in that she yelled at Chris Columbus when she read in the tabloids that he wanted to cast Haley Joel Osment)

Meanwhile Chris Columbus did two movies and bounced. Is Harry Potter even many people's first association with him, over Home Alone? He doesn't even have a producer credit after the third one. He was too busy ruining Rent and Percy Jackson. In 2024 he produced Nosferatu instead of driving himself mad tweeting in a mold-choked house bc he has other things going on in his life

The major difference is that Chris Columbus has talked about how he makes sure, when casting child actors, to ensure that they have a stable home life and were ready for fame. Meanwhile whatever kids get cast in the new Harry Potter show will be cast by someone whose main drive is open, dripping spite towards the last batch of kids and who will use them as scapegoats at the first opportunity so uh, probably not going to be as thoughtful or as good a situation for them

I haven't purchased a HP item in close to a decade - I use the books I already had as doorstops or to prop a laptop up for meetings nowadays.

There is NO "death of the author" with JK Rowling - she controls and continues to profit from her IP, and uses that money to fund hate groups.
